Behind that, a pergola-covered lounge area ties the whole space together and gives the property a natural flow from inside the house to the water's edge.

What makes this kind of build work is planning the transitions early. The step detail between tiers, the way the pergola anchors the upper level, the sight line to the lake - none of that happens by accident.
